VINEYARDS: Our family-owned vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba (Ornato, La Serra and Briccolina), Grinzane Cavour (Gustava and Garretti), La Morra (Roncaglie), Novello (Ravera) and, since the 2015 vintage, our recently acquired vineyard in Monforte (Mosconi). This wine has been always and traditionally produced by our Family with grapes coming from different regions. This is the classic “formula” used by the ancient Barolo Families to produce a wine which embraces and combines each of the unique characteristics of the different vineyards and terroirs of the Barolo area.

TASTING NOTES:  A classic style Barolo. Excellent structure, harmony and elegance. Soft tannins and balanced fruit. Approachable, but with a very long ageing potential. Barolo is a great wine, which should not be described as a “basic” or “regular” Barolo, simply because it does not have any additional indication on the label.

Plenty of blackberry and black cherry on the nose with violet and lavender undertones. Full-bodied with powerful tannins that flow across the palate. Ever enveloping and imposing, yet polished and impressive. 95 points - James Suckling

VINEYARDS: From a meticulous selection of the ripest grapes of three different plots in the highest part of our Family-owned vineyard Cascina Il Bricco, located in the village of Treiso. Il Bricco vineyard is characterized by a very high elevation and a very cool climate.

TASTING NOTES:  Big, powerful structure, rich with ripe fruit. Soft and spicy. Sweet and ripe tannins. Long ageing potential. Very few bottles produced every year.

97 points - James Suckling - Dried strawberries, ash, tar and dried flowers, such as roses, on the nose. Full-bodied and very tannic with powerful tannins and a savory finish. It’s spicy and intense at the end. A very structured red. Imposing tannins. Drink in 2024.

VINEYARDS:From a small selection of “nebbioli” from our Family-owned vineyards of Cascina Ornato in Serralunga d’Alba, one of the most historical and prestigious areas of the entire Barolo region very well known for great structure, tannins, freshness and longevity.

TASTING NOTES:  The very first Single Vineyard Barolo produced by the Pio Family, for the first time in 1985. Great structure, power, concentration, with a very long life. Produced in small quantities.

Extremely perfumed with dark berries, cherries, strawberries and crushed stones. Full-bodied with chewy, polished tannins that are muscular. Fantastic structure to this young Barolo, as well as great length. It grows on the palate with ease. Truly impressive. Incredible. Try after 2025. 98 points James Suckling.

VINEYARDS:Pio Cesare’s single-vineyard Barolo Mosconi comes from a small selection of the oldest Nebbiolo vines of the family-owned vineyards in Monforte d’Alba, one of the most prestigious areas of the entire Barolo region. The area is known for wines with great complexity, elegance and longevity..

TASTING NOTES:  This wine has only been produced since 2015 by Pio Boffa, for his 60th birthday, after purchasing the 10 hectares of Mosconi. This is a deep and complex wine – age-worthy Nebbiolo of the highest order. It is completely reasonable to suggest that its prime drinking window is two decades from now.

“Subtle aromas of crushed stone and cherry with dried strawberry and white truffle, following through to a full body. Yet it is tight and very tannic with a fine-grained texture and a long, intense finish. A superb combination of structure and finesse. Very typical for Mosconi and the Ginestre area. Exceptional. Try after 2026.” 98 points, JamesSuckling.com, Apr 2021
